MANUEL SAEZ AMONG FAST COMPANY’S EMERGING MASTERS OF DESIGN
Humanscale Design Director Named “Talent” in Annual Design Report
NEW YORK, October 5, 2007 — Fast Company magazine has named Humanscale Design Director Manuel Saez among the newcomers “driving design forward” in its fourth annual report on the intersection of business and design. The “Masters of Design” feature in the October 2007 issue of Fast Company highlights the innovators and creators who are shaping design in business today, as well as the talents who are likely to impact the future.
Manuel joined Humanscale as its first in-house industrial designer in 2001 to support the company's growth and need for innovative new products for a comfortable workplace. Since then, he has assembled an unrivaled international design and engineering team and managed the development of a number of cutting-edge ergonomic products. Manuel and the Humanscale Design Studio have earned numerous awards for design excellence, including Best of NeoCon Gold awards, Gold Innovation awards from IIDEX/NeoCon Canada, Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Awards, the Stuttgart Design Center Focus-Balance Award, the Grand Prize and Citation of Excellence in Buildings magazine’s innovation competition, and the Attendees’ Choice Award at the National Ergonomics Conference and Exposition, among others. Manuel has also served as a visiting professor at Pratt Institute in New York City, and was a guest speaker at the recent Design and Sustainability Conference in Stockholm, Sweden.
Fast Company identified Manuel as one of fourteen “idea machines” who are making their mark in industrial design, product and packaging design, graphic and digital design, and architecture. The article made note of two recent Humanscale Design Studio designs: the Switch Mouse—a unique peripheral device that minimizes the health risks associated with mousing, and Daybed—a home office workstation concept that doubles as a lounge chair and ottoman.
