HUMANSCALE PRODUCTS EARN GOLD AT IIDEX/NEOCON CANADA 2007
Innovative Mouse and CPU Holder Take Top Prizes
NEW YORK, October 5, 2007 — Two new Humanscale innovations—the Switch Mouse and CPU600—picked up Gold Innovation Awards at the recent IIDEX/NeoCon Canada 2007 Exposition and Conference in Toronto. The Innovation Awards celebrate leading manufacturers and suppliers within the fields of design and architecture, recognizing their achievements in new product design. The Gold Award is the highest honor presented by the Innovation Awards.
The Switch Mouse—Gold winner in the Innovative Products category—minimizes the health risks associated with mousing, including contact stress, wrist extension, wrist and forearm pronation, repetitive motion, and poor fit. Three unique design innovations—a V-shaped base, a scrolling navigation dish, and a size adjustability feature—provide ergonomic comfort by supporting the wrist and entire hand in a natural, neutral position, eliminating contact stress and repetitive motion, and encouraging use of the large arm muscles while allowing delicate hand and wrist muscles to relax. Additional features include programmable buttons for user-specified functions and a symmetric design for left- or right-handed use.
The CPU600—Gold winner in the Computer Support Furniture category—is an easy-to-install under-desk CPU holder that provides convenient access to drives and ports while protecting valuable hardware. Mounted on a track under any work surface, the CPU600 sets itself apart from other CPU holders with quick, tool-free CPU installation and a clean, elegant design. Its unique friction lock and Quick Track features allow for the quick installation or removal of CPUs without tools for exceptionally easy CPU swap-outs or repairs by IT personnel. Horizontal glides and 360-degree swivel bring hardware into reach while preventing users from assuming awkward positions that could lead to discomfort or injury. The CPU600 also lends itself to extended hardware life by allowing the unit to stay cool and vent freely in a position that helps prevent dust accumulation and damage caused by kicks or vacuum cleaners. Made predominantly of 100% recycled aluminum, the CPU600 is made of 90% recycled content by weight, and is 100% recyclable.
Previously, the Switch Mouse earned top prizes at the NeoCon World’s Trade Fair 2007 in Chicago, including a Gold Award in the 2007 Best of NeoCon competition and a Grand Prize in the Product Innovations Awards presented by Buildings magazine. The Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization recognized the Switch Mouse with a 2007 Good Design Award in its Product Design category. The design also took the top nod for Best Ergonomic Solution at Mixology07 and won a Gold EID award in appliance DESIGN magazine’s 20th Annual Excellence in Design Competition. In addition to winning Gold at NeoCon, the CPU600 also earned a Product Innovations Award from Buildings magazine in 2006.
Both the Switch Mouse and CPU600 were designed by the Humanscale Design Studio—an award-winning international team of designers and engineers. The Switch Mouse is scheduled for release in late 2007. The CPU600 is currently available through Humanscale and its authorized distributors.
